Imagine a reverberation as loud & forceful as a powerful flow of water, unleashed from a raging river, roaring down a 56 m Waterfall into an 18-km abyss of breathtaking Gorge. This is what you can expect at the Augrabies Waterfall when the Orange River is in full flood.

Few sights are as overwhelming at this "Place of Great Noise" known and named by the primitive Khoi inhabitants of this Northern Province of South Africa. Striking names such as Moon Rock, Ararat and Echo Corner are expressive of this rock-strewn region. Klipspringer and kokerboom rest in an austere silhouette touching the African sky, silent sentinels in a curiously unique surrounding where only those that are able to adjust ultimately endure.

The 55 383 hectares together on the northern and southern edges of the Orange River at Augrabies Falls National Park bestow a sanctuary to a variety of species, from the tiniest succulents, birds and reptiles to the more superior springbok, gemsbok and giraffe.
