Picture watering holes, brought to life by night time floodlights and overhanging decks.... A wide selection of activities, both traditional and alternative, catering to the adventure needs of guests, and a stunning selection of wildlife and bird populations. These are some of the factors which make up the elegant getaway experience of the Addo Rest Camp a thriving animal and guest community... offering comfort, style, affordability and adventure!
Accommodation at the camp includes a series of camping sites, with electricity points, and communal kitchens. The guest houses, Domkrag and Hapoor, stand watch over the local watering hole, and come fitted with en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, fully equipped kitchens, and can accommodate up to six people.
Alternative accommodation is available in a series of charming chalets, with sleeper couches, air conditioning, and fully equipped kitchens. Two of these units are also wheelchair friendly. Six semi-detached units, eight cottages, and six rondawels add to the total available living space, surrounding a gorgeous watering hole. Units are air conditioned, with kitchenettes, bar-fridges, microwave ovens, and the rondawels share a communal kitchen. Forest cabins with braai (barbecue) facilities, and family chalets hosting a maximum of six people each, with fully equipped kitchens and air conditioning round off the available accommodation.
Adventure activities at Addo rest camp include guided horse trails, and peaceful and informative game drives, coordinated and led by a team of experienced and eager professional field guides. Guests are asked to keep in mind that children under the age of six are not permitted on game drives.
Facilities include a restaurant, a curio shop, swimming pool, and a day visitor's braai (barbecue) / picnic area.
Animal spotting at Addo Rest Camp incorporates the area's Red Bishop bird hide, PPC discovery trail (wheelchair and sight-impaired friendly), an underground hide and hop-on tours, showcasing the area's impressive red hartebeest, common duiker, eland, spotted hyena, kudu, grysbok, bushpig and Burchill's Zebra, among many other awesome animals, and around 250 species of bird.
The Addo Main Camp is situated close to the main gate on the R342 about 15km from Patterson.
Accommodation Types
Accommodation units of various types are available.
Hapoor or Domkrag Guest Houses – 2 units, overlooking floodlit water hole. The guest houses has two bedrooms with bathroom en suite, air conditioning, living room and fully equipped kitchen, with a fan in the lounge. This accommodation can sleep up to 6 persons.
Chalet – 22 units
Double sleeper couch with bathroom and kitchen.
This type of accommodation can sleep either two adults and two children or three adults. The chalet is a bedsitter with two single beds and a sleeper couch, all in the same area - no separate bedroom. Includes air conditioning, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with bath and shower. Two chalets are adapted to accommodate paraplegics.
Semi-detached Chalet - 6 units
This type of accommodation can only sleep two persons. Two single beds (together) with shower, toilet, hand basin. Kitchenette with bar-fridge, 2-plate stove, microwave oven, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. Air conditioner. Bathroom and kitchenette
Cottages - 8 units
This type of accommodation can only sleep two persons. Two single beds (together) with shower, toilet and hand basin. Kitchenette with bar-fridge, 2-plate stove, microwave oven, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils. Fan only. With bathroom and kitchenette.
Rondawel - 6 units
Overlooking floodlit water whole. This type of accommodation can only sleep two persons. The hut has two single beds (together), a shower, toilet, hand basin and fridge. A communal kitchen with a four plate electric stove, (no oven) cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils are shared with the other huts. Air conditioning. With shower and communal kitchen.
Forest Cabin - 10 units
This accommodations sleep a max. of 4 persons. The hut is an open area with 4 single beds, a table and seating for four persons. Shower, toilet and hand basin. Braai facilities, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils and fridge. With communal kitchen.
Safari Tents - 5 units
The tents have two single beds, bedding, towels, fan, fridge, braai and separate communal ablution facilities. (shower, toilet and basin). Guests can also use the big ablution block in the camping area. (bath). A communal kitchen with two plate stoves, cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils for each tent.
These tents are situated inside the existing camping site area of the park next to the perimeter.
The following facilities are available at the main rest camp:
* A fuel station selling petrol and diesel
* A shop selling curios, snacks and basic supplies
* An al-la-carte restaurant open for all meals from 07:00 to 22:00. Bookings are advisable.
* A swimming pool is available for overnight visitors.
* A picnic and braai area is available for day visitors.
* The SASOL Red Bishop Bird Hide
* The PPC Discovery Trail is accessible to all, including the visually and mobility-impaired.
* There is a public telephone and a post box near the reception.
* A First National Bank with ATM is situated in the town of Addo, 15 km from the park.
