Day 1
After departing Johannesburg / Pretoria our first destination, once across the border of Botswana is Khama Rhino Sanctuary - the only reserve in the whole of Botswana which has Rhino. The Sanctuary covers approximately 4,300 hectares of Kalahari sandveld. After settling in we enjoy searching for all the wildlife the Sanctuary has to offer, endure the tranquility of the Bird Hide and watch the sunset over Malema's Pan. We return to our chalets and after our fulfilling meal, rest well for our adventure that lies ahead. (Lodged)
Day 2
Our route will take us to Palapye then Serowe to the town on the edge of the endless Makgadikgadi Pans, Letlhakane. After the last refuelling point, we continue our journey past the village of Matshumu where within a few kilometres we will have our first view of the pans. Mystical Kubu Island is our overnight destination. It is extremely difficult to describe the atmosphere that enfolds this vast expanse of 12 000 km² of nothingness, the subtle hues at sunset that change the landscape into a wonderland of surrealistic beauty. Day 3
We continue all along the edge of the pans, travelling past Thabashukudu we head for the main road between Nata and Maun. From here the road will take us to the "Gateway of the Okavango Delta" the place of "the short reeds", Maun. Our overnight stop, after what promises to be a most exciting day, Audi Camp... (Lodged)
Entering the Famous Botswana National Parks...
Day 4
For the next 6 days you will be away from the shops, fuelling stations, etc. etc. so fill up all you've got and lets hit the road. Shorobe will be the last village before we enter into the bush where the beauty of the Umbrella Thorn and the mere size of the Mopane trees will astonish you. We will set up camp at one of the public campsites within the Moremi Game Reserve, which will serve as our base for the three nights followin g. Here we could encounter lion, wild dogs, and cheetah as this is a well known area for them as well as hippo and elephant at close quarters. (Camping)
Day 5
This unique game reserve was found under the government of Mrs. Moremi, the widow of Chief Moremi the III. It totals an area of 4872 Km² and is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta. This unique reserve is home to the Lechwe, the very rare Sitatunga, the Pels Fishing Owl and many more weird and wonderful creatures. We will visit place like Mboma Island, Goaxhlo Island "the place of the spear", Third Bridge and lots more. All roads in Moremi require a 4 wheel drive vehicle and we can expect some interesting patches after a very good rainy season. These few days in this paradise will ensure you now that you are in Gods Own Country. (Camping)
Day 6
The 10 698Km² of the Chobe National Park awaits your presence once we have negotiated the Magwikhwe Sand Ridge, (the shoreline of the ancient inland lake that stretched from the Savuti Marsh to the Makgadikgadi Pans in the south). We enter into Chobe at Mababe Gate. The roar of the lion and most definitely the laugh of the hyaena at our campsite at Savuti will ensure this visit to be exciting and rewarding. (Camping)
Day 8
Today we head in the direction of Kasane and our campsite in the northern most part of the Chobe National Park, Ihaha. But be prepared, as sand and bumpy roads will test our nerves to the utmost. We will camp on the banks of the Chobe River near the place where four countries meet, the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers. (Camping)
Day 10
The border crossing into Zambia will be an experience as we board the ferry at Kazungula and make our way to the shores of the Zambezi river and our lodge at Maramba River just outside the town of Livingstone. (Lodged)
Livingstone and Victoria Falls:
The next two days you will see yourself exploring Livingstone and Victoria Falls and for the brave, Bungi jumping, River rafting, canoeing and microlight flights over the "Mosi oa Tunya" or "The Smoke that Thunders". This is the place where Dr. David Livingstone wrote the following."so beautiful the angels must have gazed upon it in their flight". You will be our guests on a sundowner cruise, be warned the sunset will take your breath away.
Day 13
Back across the border to the country of Botswana we will travel to Nata to overnight once again on the shores of the Makgadikgadi pans at Nata Lodge where we can visit the Bird Sanctuary. This is a community project and large flocks of Flamingos and Pelicans converge on the pan to breed. (Lodged)
